Dental Implants vs. Dentures

Hannah Johnson - Friday, July 12, 2019 -

Statistics show that about 70% of adults, aged 35-44 years, living in the United States have at least one missing tooth due to accidents, tooth decay, gum disease, or dental fractures. If you are currently experiencing a missing tooth, luckily there are two solutions to this problem: dentures and dental implants.

Dentures

Dentures is a prosthetic device made to replace missing teeth. They are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues in your mouth. Although overall denture quality has improved over the years, they’re not suited for everyone. If the dentures are not secured with denture adhesive, the denture is likely to slip out of your mouth while eating or speaking. Partial dentures are another option, but could foster infection and decay in surrounding teeth if they are not fitted properly. With that being said, dentures may be the best option for you if your gums and jaw are weak and unhealthy.

Implants

On the other hand, dental implants are replacement teeth that are surgically implanted into your jawbone. With proper dental hygiene, dental implants can last up to 20 years or more. This is often a popular choice for people who have one or two missing teeth, but can also be an alternative to dentures if you have several missing teeth. So, if you have healthy gums and a healthy jaw, dental implants may be the best option for you!
