Flossing Made Easy

Holly Klock - Friday, October 13, 2017 -

When you are in a bit of a rush, flossing can become a time consuming chore but flossing is one of the most important activities when it comes to dental health and hygiene. Flossing controls bad breath by removing plaque in between teeth that a toothbrush can’t reach. Don’t skip out on flossing. Take a look at these five ways to make flossing easier for you!

  1. Get it to-go! Whether you use the plastic floss sticks or regular dental floss, pack it with you. You may be on the go but keeping some with you can make it more convenient, especially when you're on the go. It’s also nice to floss after lunch and with floss on hand, you won't have to worry about spinach stuck between your pearly whites!
  2. Set a specific flossing time. It can be easy to forget this small, but important task. Set a specific time that you floss. For example, if you know that when you get home from work, you won't feel like taking the time to floss, set a timer in the morning reminding yourself to floss before you head off into your day!
  3. Find the floss for you. Some people love the floss sticks while others like water pik flossers. Either way, find your preference and stick to it. Talk to your dentist about the pros and cons of each flossing option and choose from the line up.
  4. Learn how to properly floss. A lot of us know the general idea behind flossing but it might help to actually have your dentist explain how to floss properly. This will help you have a better understanding of the technique but also allow you to clean your teeth more effectively. If you are someone with sensitive gums, then asking your dentist which techniques work best can save you the pain while flossing.
  5. Understand the why. Find out the reason why flossing is so important. Ask your dentist to educate you on the importance of flossing. It may seem like a unimportant and miniscule task but in actuality, it is vital to fighting tooth decay and disease.
